The Service Member Health BridgeMilitary Family
Spouses & Dependents
Coverage for the people VA enrollment doesn't follow.
VA enrollment covers the veteran — not the spouse, not the children. Independent civilian coverage for military families.

The gap
VA cared for the veteran. Who is covering the rest of the household?
Spouses and children of separated service members do not inherit VA enrollment. The most common solution is an ACA marketplace plan for the family, layered with the veteran's VA care. Premium tax credits typically apply based on total household income.
Three scenarios
Common military family coverage patterns.
Spouse-only coverage
Veteran uses VA; spouse needs their own marketplace plan. Common when the spouse works outside the military or remotely.
Child-only coverage
Veteran and spouse covered separately; children need pediatric essentials. Used when a parent's employer plan doesn't include dependents.
Full family marketplace
Single household ACA plan for everyone except the veteran (who uses VA). Subsidy-eligible based on household income.
